Instructional Concerts
Think of this like a young people’s intro to the symphony. We will not only perform some of our
most popular songs, we will provide information about the steel pan’s history, how they are made, &
other “tidbits” of information. We will, also, take a little time and audibly “walk” the audience
through the different section in the orchestra, explaining as we go the function & importance of
each instrument to the orchestra as a whole. This allows the students to hear the different sound
of each instrument. (This option would work well if you don’t have a lot of time to devote to a
long workshop program, but would still like to introduce students to the steel pan.)
- LENGTH OF TIME: We know hours & hours of songs. How long the concert goes, depends
on what your schedule is like.

SIZE OF GROUP: How much room can you spare? This will help us to decide on
the size of the NLSO Teaching Concert.

THE FOCUS: This concert can be tailored to fit your needs. If you have either a brief amount
of time or a large chunk of time, we can adjust the program accordingly. Depending on
what you would like to focus on we can shorten or lengthen different parts of the program.
